Dull Complexion/ Dilated Pores

The surface of our skin contains a thick layer of dead skin cells. As we age this layer of dead cells becomes thicker and contributes to dullness and congestion of pores. A common consequence is acne and the formation of blackheads (comedones).

Often a dull complexion will worsen dramatically following pregnancy, due to the sudden hormonal changes, and is aggravated by the excessive use of moisturisers.

Assessing your problem skin is easy with the Visia Complexion Analysis System, a fully computerised photographic system which also allows for easy follow up post treatment.

Fortunately, dull complexions are the one of the easiest and most satisfying of skin problems to treat. Chemical peeling is an extremely effective way of removing the dead skin cell build up, and has the additional benefit of unblocking congested pores. A number of different chemical peels are available at Skin Temple. Microdermabrasion is also available for those who want the result of a mild chemical peel, without any downtime. Microdermabrasion works best when the results are maintained with monthly treatment sessions, preferably using an acid mask to help the dead skin cell build up come away even faster!

Post treatment, your result can be maintained long term with appropriate medicated skincare and mineral sunscreen.

Chemical peeling, microdermabrasion, IPL and PEARL resurfacing are all effective at shrinking dilated pores and enlarged sebaceous glands.  Other treatment options include fractionated CO2 resurfacing, for example with our Deep Fx Ultrapulse CO2 laser.  These treatments work well for dilated pores because usually the underlying cause of the dilated pores is the accumulated effect of chronic sun exposure.

If you’re concerned about the texture and size of your pores, and want a long lasting result, be careful to minimise your sun exposure following the treatment and follow the aftercare advice longterm.
